Fragments

by Robert Vaughan

Can’t fathom what possesses
someone to bolt
so suddenly,

disappear

noteless, without warning
signs, surely troubled
but aren’t we all…

What urges someone
to leap off a
cliff, fly into a canyon

to be swallowed whole
in fragments

dispersed. Only
one freezing January
month after we’d met.
